About Pasindu

Hi. I’m Pasindu Ranasinghe. I’m a writer, and a student.

Twice a week I publish essays on this blog. These are my thoughts, observations and experiences, not expert advice.

I’m a Sri Lankan. All of my life I’ve been living here. It’s my home. The things I love about Sri Lanka: it’s beauty, hospitality and giving nature of the people, and kotthu.

I’m a minimalist. Minimalism helps to determine what’s truly important in our lives. Minimalists don’t focus on having less. Rather, we focus on making room for more: more time, more passion, more growth, more contribution, more contentment. Our stuff doesn’t make us, we make ourselves. Getting rid of our excess will make us confront our darker side: what is truly important in our life? Why am I discontent? How will I define my own success? That’s why I’m a minimalist.

I value freedom. Growing up in a South Asian culture, we were always told to play timid, play by the rules, don’t take risks. I decided very early on to never let another person control my destiny. I will decide how my life will play out. Freedom to choose, freedom to express, freedom to work, freedom to explore, freedom to life. I highly regard freedom.

I care about my health. We can never do anything if we don’t have the right health. Health is the ulitmate barrier to a good life. To take care about my health, I workout regularly, and meditate daily.

I love giving. Whether it is sharing my thoughts in writing or physically helping another in need, giving gives me the ultimate satisfaction. When we live consciously, we stay content. When give cosnciously, we become happy.

Random:

What would my pefect day look like?

Reading and writing in a small cabin in Scotland. In a large green land, a small cabin in the middle of nowhere. Maybe a few highland cattle feeding on the grass. A cup of tea to keep me warm. Yeah, that would be my perfect day.

Books I recommend to every one:

The Magic of Thinking Big by David Schwartz. (Mindset)

Tools of Titans by Tim Ferriss. (Tools for everything from the best in the world)

Favourite quote:“Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.” – Henry Ford.

Our true character is shown not when everything going smooth in our life, but when life gets tough. When we fail. How we respond to failure is what define our character.

Favourite movie: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Don’t just dream about the cool things. Make those happen, move out from the comfort zone. Travel. Live in the moment.
